Usually, the fix for a RROD isn't even anything involving the actual motherboard or chipset. Nothing needs to be altered or replaced; you just make it channel away heat differently.

 

My brother's console went RROD on him last year, so he bought a new one and gave me the old one. I plugged the old one in and it powered up right away, giving us no problems at all. I opened it up and did some casemodding just to be certain it wouldn't RROD again (warranty was already voided), and I've not had any problems with it since.
