If you went overboard with the melting, then sure, the level would be destroyed. But you could probably destroy a lot of levels if you screw around with tools.
You could have used the hairdryer to melt ice to proceed, to dry a piece of paper enough for it to be lit on fire to get rid of something, or to dry a towel after using it, in order to store it for later use or to continue mopping up the water from the ice you melted previously. There are a lot of possibilities that could have been implemented, that could have proved enjoyable.
