Essentially Microsoft and Nintendo will switch places from E3 last year.

Microsoft’s price cut has backfired badly, in that they seriously expected the price point to put them in a convincing victory over Wii – but it hasn’t. They have nowhere to go on price and will try really hard to broaden their appeal into the ‘casual’ market.

Trouble is, they don’t understand this market at all, and the results will be deeply deeply embarrassing to everyone.

Nintendo this year will be the one stealing big names, and will try hard to strengthen their core appeal. Something big will be announced that uses the storage solution, something big that uses motion-plus, and there will also be several oddball announcements that don’t look like games but have strong potential.

Sony has the best bet of a good stable E3. Just needs to keep going the way it is going.

Source? I don't at all think they are so stupid as to believe that.

No source. It is just rampant speculation on my part. But, yes, I do believe that they thought that at  the time (and, at the time, it wasn't necessarily as stupid to believe it as it may sound now).
