So according to whoever's experienced it, surround sound is a must have for gaming. Hearing things like a rocket whooshing by your head, or an enemy sneaking up behind you. Games like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2 utilize surround sound fully as an added gameplay mechanic, so I want to be well equipped. The hardware is quite new so it's tough to know what exactly I need when looking at different products.
For a real 5.1 experience, and not the simulated attempts, you'll want 3 or 4 speakers in each ear.
The headphones will need it's own power source and a dolby decoder box. For the PC there are several jacks (usually 4) or a usb cable. But for the ps3 you'll want to use an optical cable (the optical cable plugs directly into your ps3) Here are the headphones I have been looking at to buy for my Ps3, for gaming and watching blu-rays.

I'm not the best at wading through the swamp of outdated info on the internet lookin for gems, and finding the right headphones is proving a tough on-going search. If anybody has bought any 5.1 headsets or can reccomend any good websites to me pray tell. problems I have encountered include: Low info on websites, no optical cable, stereo simulated surround sound and no shipping to anywhere outside the US without riddiculous shipping fees.
