Rockstar are massive perfectionists! At least now, they are. Four years to make a game? Seriously? I mean, they're no Polyphony Digital, but still!
God of War? Predictable? Did you finish God of War II? Can you honestly tell me you saw it coming that Kratos was Zeus' son?
God of War is hardly about story, it's about ripping things to shreds. It would be nothing without obscene levels of violence. It doesn't sacrifice gameplay for gore, it has both! That's why everybody loves it! (That last bit was directed at Naznatips, not you)

How long you take to make a game doesn't mean they're perfectionists, just means whatever project you're doing has a lot of bugs (like almost all GTA games) or taking a while to plain out make.
Everyone is Zeus' son in mythology, the guy has like 40 different bastard children!
As for some of the comment about the story, some fans like to pretend the story is this amazing masterpiece, not you or a lot of fans, but some of the more annoying guys that fit in with the Halo is the best FPS ever or Nintendo can't make a bad game crowd, they try to make out as if the story for GoW is award winning. Gameplay wise it's very polished and fluid, the first game added a decent bit to the genre, but it's appeal generally is geared towards the people that don't care about innovation or improvements but more towards the gore and boobies. It makes a stereotype of GoW fans but the violence could be toned down a bit and people would take it a little more seriously ya know?

In the defense of God of War, the story is well written and for once, isn't something that was done before in a movie.

Action game wise you may have a point but there are a few that I'd say are better, but GoW doesn't hold a candle vs a lot of RPGs, actual mythology, RE4, Okami, Blizzard anything, and the Half Life series.
