Cactus - Given user reviews for some of the said titles vs. official reviews, I'd say reviewers are marking scores down.

Tales of Vesperia is unarguably the best the franchise has ever seen. Yet it's been reviewed lower than Symphonia. Why? It's better than Symphonia. ToV has also garnered 9.0+ scores from most fan aggregates, but reviewers still have it low (Game Informer being the worst of the bunch).

So because of that, and just about every other JRPG getting poor scores, I think that reviewers are looking for something in JRPGs that just aren't there. JRPGs are a totally different breeds, with entirely different focuses. What could a reviewer hate about Tales of Vesperia? Valkyria Chronicles? Yet they've reviewed both games massively lower than Fallout, or Mass Effect.

Exactly. And with the way many gamers are today where score is everything, many of these games, which are very well done, will never be as popular as they should.

Also jrpgs are made from a completly different culture then ours, they grow up in a anime-like culture. And just like jrpgs don't sell in the america wrpgs don't sell in japan. In fact jrpgs sells better in america then wrpg sell in Japan
