They may not have sold enough to meet your requirements, but I think they still prove what the genre is capable of and that there isn't really need to worry about stagnation in the genre as a whole. |
But the Shin Megami Tensei series has always been innovative and different since the first ones that got released in the 90's and it really has done nothing at all in pushing the genre forward before so why sould it now when its still not that popular in Japan
|
Persona 4 sold better than both of the latest Tales of games in Japan, if that's not popular enough in Japan to change anything then I wonder why you put your hopes in Tales of Ten
|
TOV was on the Xbox 360 and Japan did not like TOS2 but I just get the feeling that Tales of Ten is going to sell big and is going to be the best and most innovative in the series yet.The tales series before could sell 300k to 400k in it's first week easy last gen and thats the full lifespan for all the games in the Shin Megami Tenei series except Persona 4 which has only sold 500k encluding the american sells.

Where are you getting this information that the Tales series sold 300 to 400k in it's first week in Japan? If you are talking about worldwide fine, but no Tales game has sold those numbers in Japan alone and that's what we are talking about is popularity in Japan.

go check the numbers yourself on this site.Tales of Symphonia sold over a million worldwide, Tale of Destiny sold 700k in japan alone.Tales of Destiny 2 sold 900k in japan alone.and the rest sould around 500k to 600k except the tales in this gen and on the handhelds.go to wikipedia and find out yourself. All together the tales series has sold over 10 or 11 million copies worldwide.Believe me I know.
