I think it's obvious based on your examples where those types of games have gone to...Xbox Live. Braid, Castle Crashers, Arkadian Warriors and others have given us the old school vibe, and on the cheap too. You will not be seeing games like these in their current forms at retail most likely. That ship sailed a long time ago.
