Also, this *might* spur Sony to drop prices for the PS3, as it is still the cheapest blu-ray player out there.  In fact, if I were Sony, I would chop off $100 from the asking price of the PS3, immediately.  Thoughts?

Sony is already losing a lot of money and a price cut would hurt, but I think they have to just do it. And I would cut it $200 and just take the loss and move the hardware. Then work like crazy to get the manufacturing costs down to slow the bleeding.

Well, this is basically the biggest single event to a precursor that we could have..I don't know if you guys have been following the prices of high-def DVD players, but the HD-DVD toshiba model has dropped from $1000, to $399.  The cheapest blu-ray player out there is $799, currently.

If sony does not drop prices soon, they will sponsor a price drop for samsung's blu-ray player, b/c this high-def dvd business is going to be easy money once a winner finally appears.

No, its the price drop.  The average HD-DVD movie's place in amazon.com's DVD sales was about 600 a few weeks ago, and now it has jumped up to 340.  Blu-ray has been consistent at 250 but the gap has decreased sharply in just 5-6 days.
