Anyone try READING during a lucid dream? I saw an episode of Batman: The Animated Series and Batman says that you cannot read during a lucid dream because the brain that understands reading and stuff is shut off while you are asleep. This is different than say, recognizing STOP on a stop sign, or seeing Fruit Loops on a box of cereal; I'm talking about reading a book or the time on a digital clock or something.
I did some more research and I read that you do not have a very long term memory while you are dreaming. So the next time you lucid dream, try picking up and reading a book and see if you can the pages. Chances are you will not be able to read the text. And if you can, look away, count to 5, then look back and try to read the text again. Chances are that the text will be different the second/third time around.
And it makes sense if you think about it. If you pick up a copy of War and Peace or something, its really hard to recreate a full page of text, let along several pages of text in your short term memory. Therefore, you brain has to make due with what's available at the time.
