Nintendo just recycles their franchises but still is able to keep people interested.  If this was any other company they would have been gone already.  Third Party games will be Nintendo's weakest point since most developers want to developer for more capable hardware. (Not trying to diss Nintendo)

First of all, Nintendo's highest selling games right now are largely from new franchises... Like, new this decade, with 2 or less games in the series so far, but already putting games across 7 million in sales... Wii-brand, Nintendogs, Animal Crossing, Brain Age...

Second, its publishers, not developers, who make the business decisions, and they don't care how "capable" the hardware is.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.
