I agree tarheel. There is no reason to go rip the series to shreds and make it into something else entirely. Work with what you have, and build off your strengths. Don't start over from the beginning.

Also, don't worry too much about the "last of it's kind" thing. Phantom Hourglass isn't like TP, but it's still very much a Zelda game, just with fresh control styles and settings.

Yeah you're right. Zelda needs to be Zelda, in the same midevil(?) setting and stuff, but i don't agree with you're earlier post about not being Link. i think they just need to refresh him, and overall the whole characters.

Nintendo can do what they like with the setting/controls/story/gameplay and stuff (except no cel-shading) but all i really want is to have the Characters stand out. Link needs to be more courageous and show more bravery, Zelda needs to be more benevolent and wise, less of a Princess asking for help, and Ganondorf needs to be more evil and have more of a story. And not only the 3 main characters, but the other characters too, like the Zora's and the Gorons, and the Hylians and all those towns and cities and villages. They have on themselves a "perfect" game, they just need to expand on the stuff they have.

If the story is stale then they can do pretty much anything to freshen it up, but the characters are what make the game. I think the story is stale because the characters (pretty much all the characters in the game) are stale. That was the whole point of my earlier post. We need a new definition of Link, Zelda and Ganondorf.

Well, the not being Link was just a suggestion. I agree if he's refreshed that would be fine. Maybe playing as a more evil Link? Or maybe a spellcasting Link, or just a redesign of Link's abilities (more ninja-like maybe?). Give him some more personality, but never have him talk. Voice acting for the rest of the characters though would be nice.

I think physical expressions are definitely the way to go in expressing Link's emotions.  They did a great job in Twilight Princess, but there is certainly room for improvement.  I want something similar to May and Newland in The Age of Innocence where you can understand everything one's thinking and feeling from the look in their eyes.  It's amazing how Romantic you guys want this to be.  You want Link to be more of an antihero ("more evil Link"), you want Zelda to be a independent woman archetype, and Ganon to being this dark and brooding villain with a shady past.  It's certainly got potential, but I think that betrays Zelda's Nordic roots.  I can see Zelda having more to say about what happens, but I like Link and Ganondorf's current roles.

Another possible thing is to take the FFCC route and begin the game with Link already cemented as a hero and build from there (this would work especially well in a Hyrule that is at war).  It's certainly a fresh take on the series, but keeps the integral core of the game the same.  I love me some humble kid becomes great hero, but the potential for a slight change in the basic story is undeniable.
