Chrono Trigger's Battle system is nothing like Xenogear's Battle System at all.You can't pull off combos in Chrono Trigger like you can in Xenogears.Plus you can't fight in Gears.

I said XenoSAGA not XenoGEARS.

These two series did a battle system switcheroo in their respective sequals/prequals.
