I'd say S-E has lost a lot of fans. I for one bought anything with squaresoft on the box back in the ps1 era much like there are many who buy anything with nintendo on the box but they started to die quality-wise after the merger. I still like some S-E franchises (only FF comes to mind now) but I'm not the fan I used to be.

Final Fantasy games still sell craploads and very few people own PS3s?

DQ sells tons in Japan yet few people in japan own PS3....
