At least with Charlotte they pretty much explained her as she was dying so we weren't left with a lot of questions. She moved away from the island at a pretty young age, at some point she remembered the island, she spent the rest of her life trying to find.
We still don't know what she found at the dig site when she was introduced last season, but we know her character pretty much.
I'm just happy they didn't do what they did with Libby, I still want to know her complete story. She just seems so interesting, though that may be partly due to her being hot.
