Isn't there a difference between "ignoring" an argument and considering, then rejecting one? Most of the comments I've read in this thread that argue against the idea that RE5 is racist don't seem to be ignoring contrary viewpoints, but establishing disagreement. |
For sure. Obviously few arguments end with either side changing their opinions. When I said "ignoring" I was moreso referring to the beginning of this thread. It's actually become a pretty good discussion now.
I guess all I'm waiting for is for someone to say, "I can see where some people would be be offended by this, and even though I don't personally feel offended, I respect the fact that others are." And then we can all hold hands across the world and play video games and eat cake (and not that lousy lie-cake). So someone please tell me that so that I can go to a more fun thread and post about whether or not Dead Space on Wii will be any good.
Please understand that I'm coming from a fine arts background. Most of my time is spent viewing, reading, and interpreting images, (man that sounds douchebaggy, I'm so sorry). The whole "videogames as art" thing really thrills me, but I often feel like the criticism is still in its infancy. It isn't yet at the level that film, literature, or visual art criticism is.
I'm really just trying to bring another viewpoint to all this.
