He was talking about literature at that point.  "We" as in the literary community, have moved past that.  That is true.

I don't see any evidence of that.  Right now I see an entire industry mostly satisfied with their near meaningless ratings with a few people who complain about them.  Even vgChartz is now sporting its own meaningless numeric rating system with reviews.
