Yes, you´re right. Microsoft is doing great this generation, they have done a stunning work with eating into Sony´s auidence. Today they are so big in America that regardless of what happens in the future it will be very difficult for PS3 to catch up. Because of this I expect Sony to get very few exclusives from now on.
On a side note, if 360 is the new PS2 in America, what does that make the Wii?!
