Man vs. Beast and Man vs. Man has its differences, one being the fact that you should feel more empathy towards your fellow man or woman than towards an animal. That is at least what morals we have been taught to accept.

 

But animals can actually feel and understand pain.  Its questionable whether or not the fetus can feel anything, let alone can process what it is.

So you are saying that life matters but that life doesn't matter?  I think someone is a worse person who tortures an animal than who gets an abortion.

 

Life always matters, but there is a hierarchy built inside of all of us, instilled inside of us. Preservation of mankind is greater than other species for most people, and if you see a fetus as a potential person, who wouldn't fight to save it? Those who don't see it as a person.

 

I was questioning his logic. He said that since we kill animals and other living things, then killing this potential human is the same thing and should be treated the same as lets say, killing a chicken. But we all know that a human life is worth more in our society than a chickens.

 

Wolves and every other kind of animal values the lives of their own species more than they value human life.  Does that mean since the majority of species think that our lives are less valuable than the lives of the rest of their species that our lives are less valuable?

 

Yes, to those species that do think that. That's why you dont see wolves eating other wolves when there is a tasty human in front of them. Humans are the same, we look out for each other. Which is why I am against abortion. Why take away the chance of life to one who has no say in the matter? Why take away the chance to live for a potential human being? What gives you that right over the right of "privacy" that a woman has in deciding whether or not.

 

I guess if I had a child that had a disorder that didn't let them feel pain, I could kill them? Or am I going into semantics now? There will never be a definite black and white line that says this stage of a fetus' growth makes it alive or not, so why risk it? Why risk killing that potential person for the "right" or "choice" of the mother? Honestly, the mother can be more responsible if they dont want a child. Nothing else in life has a magical "do-over" like abortion and pregnancy. If you mess up and use a strange needle, you can contrive an STD. Same with unprotected sex, or if you kill someone. You deal with the consequences, but the only "do-over" in life is the "right" of women if they mess up during sex? Please, spare me.
