It's not that 34 is bad or good -- from Famitsu its about average for JRPGs I think -- the frustrating thing, to me at least, is how random Famitsu seems to be in their reviews. A 95 for Last Remnant which is averaging a 65 on metacritic, and Haze got an 85 from them as well (or 34/40). A quick search will yield several other recent examples. Famitsu just seems... crazy?
Hopefully SO4 is better than an 85, though even if it manages to do that well as a JRPG on metacritic it will be scoring pretty high. It definitely looks like the best Squeenix (or tri-ace) RPG so far this gen. My hopes are high that it hasn't been rushed and given Mana game/Infinite Undiscovery/Last Remnant treatment.
