I think it will be very close between Brawl and Halo 3.

Looking at the charts, it seems that the Halo series is a tad more popular in Europe, way more popular in America, and obviously doesn't hold a candle in Japan. I think that Japan will be huge. In America and Europe, I see the long term sales giving an edge to Halo 3, but Japan will put them on equal footing.

It's hard to say, because both Melee and Halo 1 & 2 had incredible legs. Keep in mind that the month the Xbox launched in America, Halo sold something like 300,000 copies and was outsold by Luigi's Mansion, so there is absolutely no denying that the Halo series has incredibly strong legs. The things is, if Halo 3 can replicate the kind of front loaded sales that Halo 2 had, and maintain legs that are closer to Halo (as in, a must buy for most who get a Xbox 360 from when it launches), it will outsell Brawl and maybe Galaxy. Either way, we're talking about mega-franchises that could all sell past 10 million at the end of this gen, so it should be interesting.

And regarding a comment about how everybody who wants Halo 3 already has a 360, I never understood that argument. If that is true, it would invalidate any argument about the PS3 catching up due to the release to the release of FFXIII and MGS4. Compelling software sells systems, and Halo 3 is pretty damn compelling, so it will sell systems. 8 million ppl didn't pre-buy the 360 at a higher price so they can wait for 2 years.
