Generally in the week or so before the game releases, i'll play something closely related. Right now, for instance, i am playing Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, in anticipation of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon next week.
If i have a new game, i'll play it straight through until the next new one releases.
