I define "Compassion" and "Empathy" as something quite a bit different than saying "The Government should do something about it" ... I have helped several people lose weight in their life, and helped people get an education and/or a better job and I don't see how passing the buck has anything to do with real empathy.

If they ask me for help I will help them, if a chairity forms for them I will support it, but that is not the role of the government ...
