Some games just don't work well without the higher difficulty.
My first play through in Uncharted was on the hardest difficulty, and it was still too easy and sort.
Halo was also too easy on the hardest settings. It was super short, too. It took me 6 hours to beat.
I'll give Insomniac props with Resistance. I couldn't beat it on anything above normal, and even then, it was longer and harder than Uncharted. That game has best single player of any shooter right now.
It really depends on the game. I'm going to play Resident Evil 5 on whatever the hardest option they give me is. Start Ocean 4 will be played on normal is they give me an option.
