If there are only two consoles next generation, there is a better chance of Nintendo buying Sony than Sony and Microsoft cooperating.

Remember, Nintendo's cash reserves are greater than Sony's market cap (stock value). Of course, I doubt that Nintendo would want to do such a thing -- because of the debt load and non-core businesses (for Nintendo) it would have to take in. (This is a statement based upon business realities, not a console comment).

If there was going to be a strange mash-up, it might be Microsoft-Apple. If I recall correctly, there is some cooperation on R&D. So Apple's desire to get back into the console game and Microsoft's need to have a handheld platform may make strange bedfellows. Of course, I doubt Apple will make any strategic decisions until Steve Jobs' health issues are settled (one way or the other).

Back to the OP - The article was insulting in ignoring the Wii, acting as if it was not a viable console when it has outsold the PS3/Xbox 360 combined since its introduction. The Wii has games that appeal to traditional core gamers, just like the PS3 and Xbox 360 have games that appeal to general audiences.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
