Save system sucks, no doubt. 
But even if you don't want to play the game, in order to have fun all you need to do is make a save near that garage with cars...and you will hve hours of fun just drivig around slamming in to 1000s of zombies. The "kill 53000 zombies" achevement is one of the funnest achevements iv'e ever had to work on getting.
