Splitscreen multiplayer is what defines good nintendo gaming. Personally i never had a better time than playing with 4 friends in the same room Mario Kart Wii or Goldeneye in the past. Iwill still get Conduit but this is a major bummer since i never really cared about online gaming or Wii speak. And it's easier to get 4 friends in my place than to get then online at the same time.

This are exactly my feelings. I know that it was known a long time ago already that it doesn't have splitscreen, but I haven't really been into the Conduit threads yet so I am commenting here now because of that.

I think they are loosing a huge amount of sales potential with not having splitscreen. All the so-called Marioboys are extremely into splitscreen, as VonShigsy said this is what gives you some of the best experiences on Nintendo consoles. Now, if you are a Marioboy you probably are not too much into shooters, so Single Player and Online doesn't really make the deal for you.

I, for example, usually buy one FPS for my consoles because my friends usually want to play some if we have a game session. Last gen it was Time Splitters 2.
I don't really know about other people of course, but I could imagine there are a lot that think that way. If the Conduit had splitscreen, it'd probably have been the first choice for most of those people. Now, they will all consider buying it more than once. If it gets scores in the 90's, it will still sell to a good amount of those people, but if it scores on the 80's, that will make or break the deal for a lot. This is my expectation at least.

The other thing is the great publicity you get with a good splitscreen of course.

On the LAN thing, I strongly expect that there was a reason for Nintendo not to "allow" it (how is this legally, can Nintendo really say them they must not include LAN?). I guess that there would be some kind of disadvantage if they'd include it, later release date maybe or they'd have to cut something else. If there was no such thing, it would be stupid from Nintendo indeed.
