Sony needed this announcement at E3 2006. PS3 was about to launch, and what did they have to show? Eye of Judgement? Genji 2? Giant enemy crab?
They needed SE and Konami's help to not look like a complete idiots with this 599$ price tag. Blaming SE for showing FFXIII so early is certainly not that PS3 fans should do, this has helped the console a lot.
