45 nm Cell Processors = PS3 Price Drop
A 45 Nanometer chip will be making it’s way into PS3’s “probably in the middle of the year” according to Sony Boss, Dave Reeves. For those that don’t know, the 65 Nanometer chip currently in PS3’s are costly to produce (which is what drives the price of the PS3 so high along with Blu-Ray) and also cause the console to consume more power and create more heat.
When these newer PS3’s come out with the 45nm chip, you will be looking at a less-expensive, quieter, cooler, less power-hungry PS3 (and hopefully less bulky).
This is a good thing.
