Resident Evil 4 is in a second person view.

No it isn't, it's over the shoulder 3rd person.

IF you were the eyes of Ashley, but controlling Leon, then it would arguably be 2nd person.

Any game where the camera is positioned as if there are a pair of floating invisible eyes in the environment is a 3rd person game.... because the "third person" is a godlike character, you can see, hear, control things in the environment, but you are not really there. So all main Resident Evils are 3rd person, it's just the older ones are fixed camera and RE4 is over the shoulder.

For a 2nd person game, the camera would essentially be a first person view, but not the view of the character you control.... so you are actually part of the environment/story/game.

Last time i played RE4, the bolded part was the idea of the camera.

The second person view definately isn't the easiest to accurately define, but as for RE4, it isn't an "outsider" view.

Except it isn't.... no where in RE4 does any other character talk directly to you, nor are you in any cutscenes... the TV is basically just showing a view by what would be (if the game were real) a floating, non-existant camera.

Arguably, if the view was from an actual camera that is in the game, ie a Resident Evil like the old ones, except instead of viewing from a blank corner of the room, you are viewing from a camera in the corner of the room.... which would be an example of what I said (except you are the camera instead of another character, you are still in the game though)

Of course I decided after super_etecoons post that even that isn't really 2nd person either, more just a combination of 1st and 3rd.
