I dont know about the 3870X2
I got the 4870X2 plus 2 x 1tb hdds the 4850 PHENOM cpu and all I have is a 550W PSU.
You just need to get a quality PSU. Not a generic because generics say 550W but that means its peak (in reality it is probably 400W constant), where as a good brand PSU antec, seasonic, etc.. mean 550W constant output.
