I dont think everyone can do that, but developers will have their own home enviroments. So if... RockStar was holding a sony press release. They could start up a invite only HOME server, and everyone can watch/listen to the director, watching HD of whatever is being presented, real time. Events like that, it is unknown as to how many people could join in. HOME is largly unknown still, and what is known, is only a scrape off the surface. I think HOME is gonna be massive. Question is, Will it be massive, or win the console war? I think it's gonna be that big/important for sony.

Screw that - create a video, drop it on YouTube, and get 100x more people to watch it. If HOME is about an interface for people to watch videos, its already doomed.

Probably the most compelling aspect of it (from the view of other developers) is the monetising / currency aspects. Its an easy way to show something graphical to a consumer, and then get them to purchase it. Something that can't be done easily on the web (but can be done on say Xbox Live / VC).

The fact that Sony will get a cut of everything may sting companies a bit though. Does this happen on Live?

...

If Sony can convince people that THEY can make money out of setting up their own HOME environment - then things may change. I could see my wife/partner using it...

*sigh*. Maybe you should watch the full video on it instead of just that first minute. You can watch full length movies from Home with a group of friends. You can move around that TV and put it anywhere you want. And yes, watching videos and hopefully being able to download more demos of games will be great. That can already be done from the playstation store but having incentive to stream it to Home won't hurt. Won't take up HD space then.

If Sony makes some money from what other people put on it, I'm sure it will be less than what Microsoft is sucking out of people for paying $50 a year just to play online games.  To play ANYONE'S game on Live, you have to pay Microsoft.  What's the difference?

Of course developers will make money on it. Trophies, trailers, demos, content to put in your Home will all motivate someone to play games, just like achievements on live. Having it in a 3D world that you can customize makes it that much better. Home is A LOT of things and you keep attacking certain aspects of it but there is a lot to the 12 minute video you might want to actually watch before commenting further.
