Stopping and shooting isn't the thing about RE they should have kept.  The reason why the older (pre-RE4) were better is because you had the survival problem.  The game turned into a shooter when the purpose was switched from surviving/searching/saving/problem solving to shoot/save/kill everything/shoot some more/simple problem solving that is basically solved for you.

RE4 is a great game, but I am part of the camp that thinks RE4 isn't a real RE game.

 

 

well yes, thats what i'm scared of most. im scared that theyre going to sell out and milk the series to non RE fans by making it a shooter and not a survival horror. capcom, if your reading this, im more scared at your desicions than the actual game. thank you.
