Stopping and shooting isn't the thing about RE they should have kept. The reason why the older (pre-RE4) were better is because you had the survival problem. The game turned into a shooter when the purpose was switched from surviving/searching/saving/problem solving to shoot/save/kill everything/shoot some more/simple problem solving that is basically solved for you.
RE4 is a great game, but I am part of the camp that thinks RE4 isn't a real RE game.
