I have several favorite games from each generation from the 3rd and up, but it seems that each new generation has fewer gems than the last, because nobody's trying anything new.

I think the 3rd and 4th generations had the best beat 'em ups, shoot 'em ups, platformers, and RPGs, and the advent of 3-D dumbed them down into hack 'n' slash buttonmashers, FPS, third person adventure, and CGI movies, respectively.

(This is horribly simplifying the matter, but I don't feel like listing exceptions right now. I'll just say that I think controlling 3-D games is better with 3-D controlling methods, like "the wagglez.")

Outside of games that use new interfaces, like Guitar Hero, SoundVoyager, touchscreen games, and motion control games, I already know which developers I can trust, and nothing new is as awesome as Katamari or Portal.
