Metacritic does not monkey around with how they review games or how they weight different catagories, they simply convert the final score to a 100 point score (which is the way it should be). actually metacritic/gamerankings has some funky ways of translating things. 1up gave Uncharted an A- and Metacritic/gamerankings translated that to an 85. IDK about u but I've gotten plenty of 85's in school and it has never been an A-.
On topic: there is no foul play here, the guys at totalvideogame.com gave it an 8/10. I don't know where you see 88.4% (don't get the average, some sites are like IGN where the review score is not the average of all the categories)
