It is so amazingly good that I had high expectations from the first 2 games which I loved and it exceeded every one of them. It is without a doubt the best RPG released in this console generation period, and by a HUGE margin. Even as a straight up FPS it would succeed, but adding in all the depth, the characters, the sheer number of locations (talking hundreds) the 50+ weapons and all the rest....its just amazing.
I cannot say enough good things about it, though I would recommend you get the vastly superior PC version over either the PS3 or the 360 version. It costs less, looks loads better and gets the same DLC as the 360 version.
It is not a hit or miss you might like it top tier game like GTA4 or Metal Gear Solid 4 were, it is a slam dunk if you like RPGs or FPS games at all.
Way better then oblivion, it has a lot more direction, better characters, higher quality content and much more engaging combat especially with the VATS system (slows time so you can target specific parts of enemies, shows very satisfying executions as you blow the head off a mutant with your shotgun in slow mo). Its just so great, I'm going to go play it again now that I'm thinking about it.
