I don't really think that either Sony or Microsoft could drastically change their architecture again while maintaining full backwards compatibility. On the other hand, about 3 years ago there was a working Gamecube emulator which required an amazingly powerful PC; and by 2012 you should be able to emulate the Wii on cheap laptops or (possibly) something like an eeepc.
