True HD is Dolby's lossless audio format.

In regards to a HD standard. UK is still on analogue with digital signal in many areas. The switchover begins next year and ends completely in 2012 so 99% of UK will be full digital (DAB and DVB). During that time HD services will trickle out. There is still uncertainty as to what is going to happen to the freed up signal space. It will be auctioned off probably to mobile phone services, nothing has been set aside for digital HD services.

Digital services are available but limited, you have to pay a premium for what is available, currently only the BBC has offered a free trial HD service.

I don't expect a suitable HD service here until 2010+, be it variety of shows or signal quality.

I still think its worth getting a HD screen though, my next TV will be full HD (1080p) its primary function games and DVD's don't really watch a lot of TV.
