Nope. I have actually heard many personal experience stories from my friends and relatives relating to the launch PS3's and disc drive failures....
Must be the PS3's RROD!!! OH NOES EPIDEMIC!!!! /Sarcasm guys 
but the part about having relatives and friends with this same issue is true.
