c0rd said: The problem with that theory is, it doesn't address the fact that the Tony Hawk games have went to shit. Comparitvely, there hasn't been a skateboard game that has topped the original games (2/3 mainly, I think). THPS2 didn't get a 98 on metacritic just because of a skate fad 10 years ago. If an amazing skateboard game comes up now, you don't think it's possible for it to sell millions? I think it is. To be honest, I didn't know shit about Tony Hawk OR skateboarding until his games came out, which drew attention since they were so damn good. Same with the N64 (WCW) wrestling games. Perhaps I'm the minority here, though. |
Same here. I didn't know jack about skate culture. I bought Grind Session for the PS1 because I read that there were cute girls in it (and there weren't). I thought ,"Heh. This is fun." But then I played Tony Hawk's Pro Skater via demo disk. It was fucking awesome. I bought it and was hooked ever since. But Activision refused (or just couldn't) innovate after part 3. They threw us perks and such, but it was always the same old game. Toss in some addictive gameplay and some flash, and I WILL buy another skateboarding game. In the meantime, I'll live in the past.
