not trolling on hellghast, as I loved killzone, but the game gets too much credit for its "creation" of the red eyes and such. my friend and I got the game simnply because hellghast look like Panzer Corps protect gear soldiers.

I suppose they aren't truly original, but the Helghast designs weren't based on Jin-roh.

Here's a pair of posts from Tempy and Iain Howe on Neogaf, two developers in the employ of Guerrilla Games:

Tempy

Not this fucking shit again. Look, it's 2003 old news.

I saw the Jin-Roh anime after we've already had a design (though of course there's a whole bunch of other Jin-Roh material before the anime), and showed it to the lead character designer who said he hadn't seen it before and didn't base/rip it from Jin-Roh. He's way more of a 2000AD fan anyway than a manga/anime one. Both Jin-Roh and Killzone borrow heavily from 30s/40s fascism and warfare.

The armor is completely different except for the color; and the only real similarities are the mask and glowing eyes.

Jin-Roh's armor is plated metal, while Killzone's isn't. Etc. Look, I love Jin-Roh, but you're heavily mistaken if you think Jin-Roh is completely original regarding the designs.

I spent a LOT of time down in the Visualisation office and I never saw any Jinroh reference art. Once you've taken the Nazi uniform as your base and decided to go the fully enclosed armour route, is it really possible to get anything that DOESN'T look like that?

Not saying they don't look similar, but just saying that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, so to speak.

Outisde of the eyes, the Helghast are more akin to this than anything:

And that's just the basic Helghan trooper.  You also have characters like these:
