Will FPS's ever go niche?

There is no "casual" genre. If you mean collections of simple sports games (that are not necessarily shallow), well third parties have been attempting to get into that with varying degrees of success. It's not the next big thing but high quality entry-level games should be a mainstay for future consoles.
