3rd party developers can't afford not to release on at least 2 of the major platforms.
IF they are using a development system/process geared towards multi platform they should get higher profits by doing so. Those who develop without regard for more than 1 system, will of-course have a high cost porting the game to other systems. Here is where the 3rd party developers should focus in these financially unstable times. They should use multi platform development system making it possible to sell their games on 2-3 platforms without much extra man power. The exceptions are of-course those developers who KNOW their games will sell 3 million or more on one platform, but even those developers loose out on potential profits. It' makes business sense.

ooooh put your tin hat on mate.

Sony fans wont like you saying that. That would mean the "power of the cell" would be a waste of time as the lowest common denominater would rule. Its all bollocks of course... but that is what they will say.

yes and no. The development systems should use the strengths of all systems it support.

Today that is not the case, but I hope it will be. If the system is using the Cell it should not increase the workload of the developer. That extra power should come for, more or less, free. 3rd party game engines don't use the cell much, if at all today.
