have you not seen Empire's screens? They're amazing! Easily the best bet for 2009 Graphics of the Year.
I have only played Shogun, so I can't answer you. But apprarently Empire will have 2 campaigns, 1 single-player, 1 online. It will also have several game modes for multiplayer, achievements, ranked matches and persistent career modes for online.
