Well it doesn't quite work like that. My old toshiba didn't have overheating issues for over a year since i first bought it, so i pretty much used it on my lap when i was at home, or on top of a wooden table when i was on the university. When the first overheating problems ocurred, i bought that base, and began using it just on top of a desk, even back at home, it's all just a matter of wanting your laptop without problems, that up to to laptop user. Most laptops don't have overheating issues if treated right, my new laptop, even when playing Crysis on high doesn't overheat at all, since it has 4 fans directly cooling the GPU, CPU and HDD, so it's almost at a stable temperature of 40-45 ºC.
