Journalism is the only career where people who have no education or experience related to a topic get to write about it ... The more times you run into journalists who write about topics where you have some interest and knowledge the more you will come to realize that this is true. The thing that I find personally interesting about this is that similar stories came out about the Gamecube at a similar point in its life and (I suspect) were probably a factor in Nintendo having difficulty selling systems. If enough people start believing that the only games that will be available for the PS3 are inferior versions of XBox 360 games there is far lower interest in the system for gamers ... When you combine this with the steady stream of stories about how poorly the PS3 is doing and the PS3 desperately needs a price cut to survive Sony has a massive quantity of negative press to counter. |
Media has a lot of power. Just look what it did for the Wii as well. The effect you're talking about is part of what would aid in the downward spiral that I mentioned in my post. We'll see.
