Ok here is what the Halo series revolutionized:

It made FPS the most popular by far genre of game.

It has the hands down absolute best online matchmaking.

It revolutionized the melee attack.

It brought regen health to the forefront. (think no more picking up health packs)

It also brought WELL BALANCED vehicles to online play.

1. Most popular genre by far? Is that why you always see shooters at the top of the charts? Mario Kart's projectiles don't make it a shooter-racer.

2. Of what? If you said other console games, I might agree despite not having played very many games online. But plenty of online games beat Halo, most notably Warcraft/Starcraft.

3. Press a button to hit a person? Revolutionary!

The last two I agree with.

He is reffering to the way players are ranked and matches are created based on rank and connection speeds and such.  It made online play less about getting on a single server, and getting randomly assigned teams after every round, and more about self contained matches where you and your party could be matched with different parties after every match.  It made it more into a party centric system based on skill, where the opposing team is completely different than the match before.  There is a reason that lots of games now a days are taking the matchmaking approach instead of the 'join a server' approach.
