Cars i can understand due to heavy government charges, especially the Luxury Car Tax which is a 33% tax you pay on the car's sale price over $50k which already includes a 10% GST. Not to mention stamp duty which is yet another tax on all cars.

It also depends on the distance the cars have to be shipped. Japanese & Korean cars are fairly comparable to the exchange rate world wide when you consider the government charges. Where as European cars have to be shipped much further, so there will always be a higher price for that. We also have Right Hand Drive cars because we drive on the left hand side of the road, which is more rare than the other way around.
