That makes 2 JRPG for XB360 and 3 for Wii. What were you saying again? Or perhaps you were counting the MMO as JRPG? If you think that, then I know you're delusional. And if you don't understand why the Wii won, try to realize that the OP talked about RPG to be released this fall in NA. Which is a pretty limited view of RPG. Realize that JRPG were of a particularly high importance for the XB360 to win Japan, and that didn't happen Not because Blue Dragon is bad, because it's not. Like I said, it's above average, but barely. And yes, it's true I didn't play it in full, and thank god for that, because I have this feeling with RPG, knowing in less than 1 hour of play if I will like them or not (or if they're awesome), and my meter was not broken, as I've seen in the event in France where Sakaguchi was invited, where I could play some of it and see some advanced part of it. It just confirmed my first impressions. And sorry to tell you that, but be it on 120M or on 400k consoles, 100k or 200k sales of a game are nothing huge, at all. By the hype it had, BD should have sold 1M units in Japan alone. I thought at first that it was because there were not a lot of XB360 that it sold poorly (related to its level of hype), but this game pushed at least 100k XB360 in Japan. There's also a tendency to treat what Mistwalker does as a sure hit. They just showed it's not. Seems like Sakaguchi and Uematsu can't outdo Horii and Sugiyama. I don't even understand why they tried, but it doesn't bode well for the small studio. Now, they will do what they know best in Lost Odyssey, so it will be the real test.
But don't bring 2008 games like Last Odyssey in this discussion, as it's dangerous for your point, because then you start to align strong JRPG franchises against it, like Dragon Quest or Tales Of. And from there it's the end on the JRPG front, with big ones being announced again today for the Wii in Japan, it seems like it won't be reached again. And I thought PS3 would het the lion's share of JRPG. But don't panic, for RPG overall, and especially WRPG, XB360 is still king. But as a self-respecting JRPG fan, sorry to tell you that the XB360 appears more and more as the worst console of this gen to buy. Not yet this fall in NA as PS3 is still behind, but it will be more apparent next year. All this while keeping in mind that the XB360 is 1 year older. |
First off last odyssey LOL (was it a unintentional mistake or are you saying its there (last hope) last journey?), second who says its in 08, until we know that is is offically pushed back its winter of this year, look it up, then try argueing.
3rd, selling 100k on a 400k console is huge, look up attachment rates and you might understand why, having a 25% attachment rate is huge and enourmous. Its technically halo in japan, do some research before you start talking. Also blue dragon has a 50% attachment rate, now believe me thats huge in the eyes of anyone. While 100k and 200k is not alot, for selling that much in japan it is, and it pushed systems, exactly what it was supposed to. How could it sell 1 million with a console that has a fanbase of 400k......?.......
Blue dragon is rather exeptional to some, famatsu gave it a very high score, along with quite a few reviewers here in US, if they liked jrpgs, they liked blue dragon, so they gave it high scores (game informer 9, gamepro 9.25 or something, and more) to others it will suck or be "average".
For doing that i should rip into the wiis jrpgs, i really should. I think Fire emblem is just a polished game that is the same thing over and over, nothing new at all. I expect the gameplay to actually look like a next gen console or at least some degree. And i really dont want to dig into it anymore since i actually like fire emblem, but i can and i will if you continue with this crap. Fire emblem has never been anything exceptional then a RTS rpg.
I could dip into your other games for going into eternal sonta, but i wont, i feel im a little better then that.
Sakaguchi and uematsu will always be better, no matter what you say. Uematsu is considered one of the best sound directors in gaming, most everyone will agree. Sakaguchi is the FF father, and ever since he left SE, ff has gone down the drain (x-2 wtf) (ff 12 no story at all) selling less and less and losing many fans.
Again look up info before you speak, Artoon made blue dragon, not mistwalker, Mistwalker is made up of 10 people, thats it, pretty much uematsu and sakaguchi. All they did in blue dragon was watch over it and create the sound, thats it. Artoon is not the best known creators of the game vs a SE that has had countless experience, and for creating its very first rpg, i say artoon did pretty danm well.
We have two or three more jrpgs to look forward too, and yes even big franchise for possibly SO4 will be coming to the 360, alone with cry on and infinite discovery. But wii does also, and so does Ps3, and i will not declare a winner it comes down to opinion
Its all Opinion, every last minute of it, but again dont bring down games if you have not completely played them, then you can voice a honoest opinion simple as that.
Also its matter of opinion which console is shaping up badly, im throughly enjoying the 360 and i will the wii and ps3 once i get them this holiday season.
Again lost odyssey can be considered this year untill we really know
With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.
Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.
